John Malmstrom

About Me

I play jazz clarinet, occasionally tenor and alto sax.

“John Malmstrom… that’s quite a mouthful,” a friend once remarked of my name upon hearing that I was building a career in entertainment. I thought about it long and hard. John Malmstrom… “Yes,” I decided, “People can’t pronounce that name, much less remember it.”

So I changed it to Jack.

I always like to keep a few irons in the fire at once. I hope you’ll use this site to explore them (at the “Projects” link above), and please, let me know what you think!

I’ve got a number of swell projects keeping me busy: I have a wonderful time performing as a guest sideman with some great folks such as Jazzette and Nova Scotia’s award-winning gypsy jazz band, Swingology

When not on the stage, I’m hard at work writing and recording my own original jazz compositions and Bossa Novas.

As if that’s not enough, I must confess, I’m always game for something new! I’ve had great success with long-distance collaborations.

Whenever I play, my goal is the same: To complement and blend with my fellow musicians and to entertain listeners with music that is hot and alive.
